The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for Hawaii Island effective until 7:15 p.m. Monday.

At 4 p.m., radar showed heavy rain along a line extending Volcano to Hilo, according to the service. The area of heavy rain was moving toward to the northwest around 5 p.m.

The advisory covers the entire Big Island.

The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will cause hazardous driving conditions because of ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.
